Book Bombs is featured in the new issue of the journal of the California Society of Printmakers (Summer 2016).
Book Bombs Zine #7, Ms. Book's and Ms. Bomb's Guide to Street Manners first hit the streets as part of a 2012 street intervention. Multiple copies were hung from a light-post where one of the creators experienced an alarming street harassment incident.
In early 2012, we participated in Everyday Work, an exhibition put on by ILSSA (Impractical Labor) at Hammes Gallery, Notre Dame, IN, as well as For Decoration and Agitation: An Exhibition of Stencil and Pochoir Books and Art at the Newark Public Library. Book Bombs work will also be on display as part of Paper Fortress at Pterodactyl Gallery in Philadelphia.
Book Bombs Zine #6, Horizontalidad, was created in October 2011 in response to the Occupy movement. Zines were created in northwest Massachusetts. Covers were printed at PRESS: Letterpress as Public Art with the support of Melanie Mowinski. Interiors and assembly were supported by the Friends of Dard Hunter Eastern Regional Meeting. The zine was distributed in Pittsfield, MA; Philadelphia, PA; and the Bay Area.
Book Bombs Zine #4, Hydrologies, debuted in Minneapolis in March 2011 as part of Reader's Art 11: Urban/Urbane at Susan Hensel Gallery. Zines were folded down on-site and available for the taking as part of the opening reception, which included documentation of other Book Bombs projects. The zines were then left in bus shelters and other locations throughout the city, in tandem with snow stenciling. See the project blog for documentation.
The Ethics of Wheatpaste, a one-page fold book, was released as part of Refugee Reading Room, a piece by Amze Emmons that was on display at Space1026 in February 2011. The zine is now available as a pdf download in the Zines section of the website.
Book Bombs will participate in the exhibition Social Commentaries at St. Ambrose University's Catich Gallery from January 18 to February 25, 2011 with a reception Saturday, January 29, which focuses on political work in the field of book arts. http://web.sau.edu/catich/
We're honored to be included in Bridget Elmer's upcoming presentation at the College Book Art Association Conference on Friday, January 14, 2011 in Bloomington, Indiana. Bridget's talk is entitled Relational Continuum: The Book as “Lasting Encounter."
Our most recent print, "Mobility," was distributed in locations around the San Francisco Bay Area in December 2010. Images from the print drop can be seen on our blog.
